Application procedure

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg with its two departments of Microsystems Engineering and Computer Science educates a strong team of PhD students within the "Embedded Microsystems" PhD research program. The program started in April 2005. It is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and supported by three industrial partners and one research institute.

Currently, several PhD positions and one post-doc position are open to be filled. The PhD positions address candidates with excellent Master or Diploma degrees or equivalents in the fields of Computer Science, Microsystems Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical- or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or similar. The post-doctoral position is dedicated to candidates with a PhD degree in the same fields.

The PhD students are employed based on the German collective labor agreement for civil services according to the TV-L E13 pay scale, initially granted for 2 years, with the option of a third year.

What we expect

For admission to the PhD program "Embedded Microsystems", fulfillment of the general requirements of the PhD regulations of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg is a prerequisite. In addition we expect

• Exceptional achievements in your studies
• Straightforward and fast completion of your studies
• A convincing interview with potential PhD advisors of the PhD program

Once you are admitted to the PhD program, we expect that you

• attend the seminars and workshops of the PhD program, including active participation and presentation
• proactively seek the communication and exchange of ideas with your fellow students and with your supervisors
• publish your results at conferences of your field of research and in the archival literature
