Review on Ultrahydrophobic Surfaces
"Some thoughts on superhydrophobic wetting" ist the title of a review that we published recently in Soft Matter (direct link to paper). The review provides an in depth discussion of the limitations of the Cassie and Wenzel models that are typically used to describe wetting on rough surfaces. Thermodynamics and kinetics need to be taken into account and more refined models are presented that tackle questions like the transition between the two wetting modes and the behavior of superhydrophobic materials under condensation.
