Husemann-Cup 2005: CPI reaches semifinals
[01.07.2005]For the third time a CPI team participated at the most important soccer tournament of the University of Freiburg, the Husemann-Cup organized by the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. Improving year by year CPI shocked the competitors this year with brilliant foot work and sophisticated passing in the first round. At no time in any danger the team proceeded to the semifinals against the Macromolecular Institute apprentices. Well, by that time the first steaks became available from the BBQ and we sure didn't want to miss these culinary treaties...

Patch-on-chip project lauched
[03.06.2005] CPI and the group of Prof. Jan Behrends (University Hospital Freiburg) will work together on a project that aims at the development of a chip-based patch-clamp technique for the investigation of living cells. It is the goal to use these chips for the determination of the electrophysiological properties of the cells in a much faster way than possible by standard patch-clamp techniques.
The project is funded through a seed grant from the University of Freiburg.
Recently graduated: Rupert Konradi and Daniel Freidank
[03.06.2005] A little while ago two new PhDs were released: Both, Rupert as well as Daniel were very successful with their theses and their defenses. Daniel worked on a project skyscraper DNA chips in which a surface-attached polymer network acted as a three-dimensional carrier matrix for the DNA probes. During his worked he developed chips that exhibited an outstanding sensitivity compared to conventional two-dimensional chip systems. Rupert was a key player in our polymer brush team and worked on the swelling behavior of PEL brushes in various environments. Wake him up at 2 am and he can right away tell how a PMAA brush is affected by a trivalent cation at pH whatsoever! Daniel joined BASF already quite some time ago and Rupert went off to a post-doctoral position at ETH Zürich with Marcus Textor. Rupert and Daniel, it was a pleasure to have you guys in the group! All the best for the future. |

Fellowship awarded to Thorsten Neumann
[03.06.2005] Congratulations, Thorsten! The Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg just granted him a doctoral fellowship. Thorsten was among the only five fellowship winners at the University of Freiburg. Thorsten is working on DNA chips and is currently also developing our ATR reader for such chips. Congratulations, Thorsten! |
