Hybrid endoscopic imaging zoom system with integrated tomographic sensor

Projektbild

Project description

This project aims at developing a hybrid, miniaturized imaging zoom system which incorporates OCT (optical coherence tomography) for endoscopic applications. By means of a micro-optical zoom system, the optical system will be able to take color pictures of the surface as well as OCT depth scans of the sample under test. The implementation of the optical system is based on a silicon bench technology which was developed in another project. This technology allows fabrication and integration of axicon lenses, aperture stops, tunable micro-lenses and micro-scanners onto a micro-bench. Using the micro-bench technology, a camera and a customized illumination unit will be integrated, yielding an imaging zoom system without movable optics. Additionally, a scanning micro-mirror is designed and incorporated, providing 2D lateral scanning. The combined system allows the realization of an adaptive imaging zoom system with extended image field retaining concomitantly the OCT functionality.
