Accelerometers for pulse wave sensing

Projektbild

Project description

Continuous monitoring of the human cardiovascular system is of increasing importance, particularly as the world’s population ages. The goal of this project is to develop of a minimal-invasively implantable pulse monitoring system. The measurement concept is based on accelerometers which are placed on an artery to acquire acceleration plethysmograms, and thus, the dynamic distension properties of the blood vessel. By implementing two sensors, the arterial pulse wave velocity can be determined due to the temporal delay between the sensor signals and this parameter is used to derive blood pressure. Energy as well as data transmission is realized wirelessly through the skin, making continuous medical monitoring for ambulatory patients possible.
