High Performance Lateral Flow Assays through centrifugal-microfluidic automation (CentrImA)

Projektbild

Project description

The ‘CentrImA‘-project aims at improving the performance of Lateral Flow Assays (LFAs) by integration into the centrifugal-microfluidic ‘LabDisk’-platform. The advantages of the centrifugal-microfluidic system will assist in developing a flexible and cost-efficient Point-of-Care (PoC) test for several inflammatory markers in the quality of a central laboratory. The monitoring of biomarkers is essential for patients with inflammatory diseases. However, today’s LFA PoC products do not achieve the analytical sensitivity requirements, especially for some biomarkers. The goal of CentrImA is to combine the advantages of LFAs (quick, cost-efficient and easy to handle) with the strengths of the LabDisk (control of volume flow, precise sample volume, integration of sample preparations and the ability to run several tests in parallel). This seeks to improve on the quantification of the results, the sensitivity, the dynamic range and the possibility for multiplexing. Furthermore is this system a promising candidate for other areas of application e.g. in the oncology or cardiology.
