VitaDr. Nazli Pelin Kocatürk-Schuhmacher

Pelin Kocatürk Schumacher completed her master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (Turkey) in 2010. During her MSc thesis she developed an interest for the topic of nutrient removal and recovery from wastewater, and the use of sorption processes in environmental engineering. In 2011, she began a joint PhD program at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and at the Department of Soil Quality, Wageningen University (Netherlands). During her PhD, she conducted research on the nutrient recovery from biogas digestate through sorption processes, using biochar and zeolite. In addition to her PhD project, she worked as a researcher at the research institute Alterra (Netherlands) between 2014 and 2015. She earned a joint PhD degree in 2016. Since March 2017, she works at the Department of Microsystems Engineering in a research project that focuses on a new concept to combine wastewater treatment and electricity production.
