Projects
Closed Eye Pupillometry

Project description
Pupillometry measures the spontaneous variation of the pupil diameter and the pupillary light reflex. Both of these parameters are directly related to cerebral activity, and play a key role in the clinical neurological examination for patients with a wide variety of neurological issues. State-of-the-art systems can easily measure eye activity while the eye is opened, allowing routine investigations in fields of psychology and neurology. Pupillometry can also reveal crucial information to study the sleep behavior as a manifestation of certain neurological issues. Yet there is currently no technique to perform such measurements accurately while the eye is closed. In this project, we aim to develop an OCT-based closed-eye pupillometry system, which would be able to measure pupil diameter and to track eye-movement in real-time with clinical precision. The success of this project will open new possibilities in sleep-research, anesthesia and monitoring of coma patients.
