Projects
Implantable photoplethysmographic sensor for continuous monitoring of cardio-vascular parameters
Project description
Continuous acquisition of vital parameters is becoming increasingly vital for the improvement of the quality of life of chronically ill patients. Photoplethysmographic measurements offer the possibility of determining the arterial blood pressure and oxygen saturation without the necessity of placing a sensor inside the blood vessel. For continuous monitoring of these parameters, implantable sensor systems are being developed. The sensors are embedded in a biocompatible silicone housing. One sensor type includes fibre-optical components to lead the light to the underlying tissue and collect a part of the backscattered light to a photosensor. Another sensor consists of a circuit with optoelectronic components mounted on a flexible carrier.
