Physiological Control Systems

Our research lies at the interface of machine learning, biomechanics, and motor control to study sensorimotor dysfunction. We investigate the recovery of motor functions and sensory feedback in amputee populations and patients with neuromuscular disorders.

Our research program is divided into three major areas:

1. Dynamics of neural and muscular signals in amputees and patients with neuromuscular disorders.

2. Balance and postural control mechanisms in amputees and patients with neuromuscular disorders.

3. Stimulation paradigms to restore partial motor functions and sensory feedback using neural interfaces.

  • Electrophysiological recordings
  • Kinetic and kinematic analysis of posture and gait
  • Machine learning and signal processing
  • Transcutaneous and intraneural electrical stimulation

Current Projects

  • Intermuscular coupling and center of pressure adjustments during balance control in lower-limb amputees
  • Real-time visual feedback of load distribution asymmetry in lower-limb amputees
  • Corticomuscular coupling during upright balance in lower-limb amputees
  • Intelligent orthotics and prosthetics for an improved human-technology interaction (INOPRO)
