Pravin Vaity


Pravin Vaity received Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Physics from Mumbai University, Mumbai, India, in 2004 and 2006, respectively. He was a Research Fellow from 2007 to 2012 and a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2012 to 2013 with Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, India. He did Ph.D. in Physics from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, India, in 2012. His thesis was on beam propagation through nonlinear photorefractive material. He worked on various projects along with his PhD which included Optical Vortex Beams, Defects in Light induced Photonic Crystal, and Airy Beams Optical Parametric Oscillator.

Later, he joined as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL), Laval University, Quebec City, Canada, on 2013 and remained in position up to 2015. He worked on Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) mode supported fiber in the COPL.

He spent one year as a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, USA, where he worked on the formation of photonic crystals using optical tweezing technique.


In late 2016, he joined the IMTEK, University of Freiburg, Germany as a Postdoctoral Fellow, and now he is doing research on application of a Bessel beam for Optogenetics. His research interests include the following topics:

Classical Optics: Spatial structures of light, Optical vortex and Orbital Angular Momentum of light: generation, detection, and its applications.

Fiber Optics:  Orbital Angular Momentum Mode supported fiber, and Fiber Bragg Grating

Non-linear Optics: Spatial Soliton, and Optical Parametric Oscillator.

Quantum Optics: Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversion process.

Numerical Study: Metamaterials, Photonic Crystal, and Photonic Crystal Fiber.
