Stefan Fischer was born 1982 in Titisee-Neustadt. He studied physics at the University of Heidelberg and at the University of Freiburg. He carried out his diploma thesis at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Freiburg.

After graduation, he started his PhD at the University of Freiburg. In 2014, he earned his PhD in Physics with his dissertation entitled “Upconversion of sub-band-gap photons for silicon solar cells”, which was carried out at the Fraunhofer ISE.

Stefan's publication record comprises more than 15 peer-reviewed papers in high class journals as well as more than 25 contributions at international conference both as author and co-author. He was honored with the “Best Student Presentation Award“ at the 39th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference in Tempa, Florida, and was invited speaker at international conferences, such as the SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco, California, which is organized by the International Society for Optics and Photonics.

Since June 2014, Stefan has been a member of the scientific staff at the Department of Microsystems Engineering at the University of Freiburg where he coordinates the restructuring of the international and interdisciplinary Master of Science course “Renewable Energy Engineering and Management” (REM). In particular, Stefan organizes and takes care of the expanding technological and physical content of the lectures.
