PhD student
Vita
Hien Nguyen was born in Vietnam. She graduated from high school in Germany and studied Microsystems Engineering at the Institute for Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) at the University of Freiburg. She completed her bachelor's degree in 2017 with a thesis on the development and characterization of ceramic inks for 3D inkjet printers at the laboratory for Materials Processing (IMTEK). During her master programme, she shifted her research focus to hydrogen fuel cells and X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) at the laboratory for MEMS applications. In her master thesis, she developed cathode catalyst layers with low Platinum loading for PEM fuel cells, which achieve the performance of those with a triple higher Platinum loading. Since March 2020, she is working on her PhD about "Development and Characterization of hydrocarbon-based, fluorine-free Membrane-Electrode-Assemblies for PEM Fuel Cells". Her research focus is production and characterization of novel catalyst layers with hydrocarbon-based, fluorine-free ionomers.
